AI features # AI features that turn a site walk into an estimate and a paper archive into a document. **Trevor Stuckless, a software builder in Dundas, Ontario, puts AI into business software where it removes one specific chore.** CALIBER, inside the Blue Crane app, turns a spoken and filmed walk of a job into a priced estimate or an ordered task list. Blackbox reads paper archives into structured documents without rewriting a word. And client websites get an agent layer, so an AI assistant can look a business up and send it a real quote request. The contractor walks the job and talks it through while the phone films. CALIBER measures by reference to objects of known size in the frame and returns a finished estimate with tax and a deposit, with the video attached as proof. A general walk produces something different: an ordered, editable list of the job's steps, with suggested hours and crew size, that the crew can tick off and export as a PDF. CALIBER runs on [Azure OpenAI](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/ai-services/openai/overview) and is included on every Blue Crane app plan. ## How do you stop an AI from rewriting someone's records? By splitting the work so the model that organises a document can never touch its words. In Blackbox, one model transcribes each photographed page exactly as written, spelling mistakes and faded numbers included, and flags anything illegible instead of filling it in. A page it is not confident about is handed up to a more capable model without anyone asking. A separate step then works out the outline: where each section starts and which pages it spans. That step is only allowed to return an outline, never text, so the finished document cannot contain a sentence the paper did not. The photographs stay on file, and any line can be traced back to the picture it came from. ## What is an agent layer on a website? A small set of machine endpoints on the business's own domain: a facts card, an index of its pages, and a server that speaks the [Model Context Protocol](https://modelcontextprotocol.io/specification). An AI assistant connected to it can look up hours and services, search and quote the pages, and send a quote request into the enquiry inbox the business already uses. Referral Flooring's went live in September 2026 and passes all fifteen checks of the audit Trevor wrote for it. The honest limit: an assistant uses an agent layer only when someone has connected it.
